A former baker almost cooked up a historic upset before Algeria's benched superstar saved the day.

Algeria staged a dramatic second-half comeback to beat Jordan 2-1 and keep their World Cup dreams alive.

Jordan's star winger , who once quit football to work in a bakery, initially unlocked the Algeria defense with a brilliant assist for in the 36th minute. But Algeria responded in the second half. Manager Vladimir Petković subbed on , who immediately set up for the 69th-minute equalizer. then sealed the 2-1 turnaround in the 82nd minute, leaving debutants Jordan with zero points from two games.

With this 2-1 victory, Algeria breaks the historical deadlock, moving to two wins, one draw, and one loss in their four all-time meetings with Jordan.
This was Jordan's first-ever competitive match against Algeria outside of Arab regional tournaments, following their previous clashes in the 1974 Kuneitra Cup and 1988 Arab Cup.
Algeria's comeback victory marks their first win over Jordan in 52 years, since their historic 6-0 thrashing of the Chivalrous Ones in September 1974.
